Mike Brockway

G. Michael Brockway, 79, of Homer, passed away on January 25, 2023, at Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson, Michigan.

He was born on October 28, 1943, to Colon and Vera (Kelley) Brockway in Homer. He was a graduate of Homer High School, Class of 1962. Mike was a farmer, repaired windows, worked for Mackinaw Glass Company and Jackson Glass Company as a Glazier. On May 14, 1966, he married Marie Rewa at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshall, Michigan. They enjoyed 56 years together on their family farm of more than 150 years in Homer, both Mike and his father were born there.

Mike was the Founding President of the Homer Historical Society and continued to serve as a board member for many years. He was appointed to the Homer School Board for 1982 - 1983; served on the Student Loan Board for 23 years and was a member of the Preservation Society. Mike enjoyed collecting gasoline and steam engines, as well as antique farm machinery. He also enjoyed attending steam shows. Mike was very creative and expressed it beautifully through leaded glass working and woodworking.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Marie; special niece, Michelle (Shawn) LeTarte of East Lansing; 23 nieces; 19 nephews; as well as many great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Colon and Vera Brockway; sister, Suzanne Brockway; brothers, Alan Brockway, Lynn Brockway, and Wallace Brockway who died as an infant.

Services have been entrusted to Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 303 S. Hillsdale Street, Homer, MI 49245. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2023 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 212 W. Hanover St, Marshall, MI 49068 with Father Ronald Raab from Notre Dame, officiating. A committal service and interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery, M Dr S, Homer.
