Obituary

Michael Paul Walbeck, age 64, of Tekonsha, Michigan, passed away on August 31, 2023, at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family.

Michael was born in Marshall, Michigan, on March 26, 1959, to Dale and Frances (Bicknell) Walbeck. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1977. He was united in marriage with Kathy Boakes on September 15, 1979. He and Kathy met while working at Progressive Dynamics. He worked as a Transportation Director for both Tekonsha and Marshall Public Schools, retiring in 2021. He loved to take a school bus to the Marshall Fair, where he handed out school supplies and taught kids and parents about bus safety. Michael loved woodworking and shared that love with the youth clubs in Calhoun County, teaching scroll saw and wood restoration. He participated in several local craft shows and enjoyed fishing and playing golf.

Michael is survived by his loving spouse of forty-three years, Kathy Walbeck; two sons, James (Laura) Walbeck and William (Kailey) Walbeck; four grandchildren, Michael Walbeck, Edmund Walbeck, Casie Swiger, and Paisley Walbeck; four brothers, John Walbeck, Richard (Deb) Walbeck, Timothy (Deb) Walbeck, Robert (Lynn) Walbeck; sister-in-law, Kathie Walbeck and brother-in-law, Bob Stevens. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Walbeck and his mother, Frances Walbeck; three sisters and one brother, Anna Stevens, Teresa Walbeck, Elizabeth Walbeck, and Thomas Walbeck.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Lyon Lake Cemetery, officiated by Pastor William Cole. Following the graveside service, friends are invited to join the family from 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. for a reception at Maple Grove Bible Church, 18511 L Drive S, Marshall, MI 49068. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Calhoun County Bombers Youth Club and Maple Grove Bible Church.
