Michael David Tooze

Michael D. Tooze, 74, of Marshall died on Sunday March 7, 2021 following a long illness. He died at home surrounded by his family and friends.
Mike was born on December 22, 1946 in Battle Creek to Dewey and Jean (O'Gaffney) Tooze. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1965, and later would graduate from Ferris State University. Mike served in the United States Army in 1968. He was part of the Recon division of the 3rd Squadron, 4th US Cavalry MacKenize's Raiders. Mike earned Purple Hearts, and Bronze Stars with Valor while serving in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1970. On October 19, 1982 he married Johanna C. Brown-Squier in Marshall.
Mike worked for the Kellogg Company for 29 years retiring in 2001. Before he retired, he spent all of his spare time either working on his home or building custom cabinetry and decks for others. He also enjoyed creating Art to include, wood carving, drawing and painting. His other love was to spend time with his family and friends at the lake. Mike was a member of member of The Order of the Purple Heart Association and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Johanna; children Jennifer Tooze and Michael (Laura) Tooze II; stepdaughters, Vanessa Squier and Elizabeth (Carlos) Figueredo; five grandchildren; Damien Candelaria, Ira and Autumn Corralez and Nery and Slavador Figuerdo and sisters Julie Conner and Patty (Roger) Duguay. Preceded in death by his parents; and his faithful dog companions Chester, Carley, Murdock, and Murphy, Pickles and Rusty.
A memorial service will take place at 4pm on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services 723 US Hwy 27 N Marshall MI 49068.
