Meredith E Wright

December 2, 1930 — September 24, 2022

Marshall

Meredith Edwin Wright, 91 and ½ (as he proudly stated), of Marshall, MI, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Meredith was born on December 2, 1930, to Meredith Lee and Mildred (Fountain) Wright, in Marshall. Meredith graduated from Marshall High School in 1948 and started his trucking career by learning how to drive a semi while working on the farm for Laraine VanSickle. He held various trucking positions throughout his career, hauling livestock, fuel, frozen foods, and finally retiring in 1991 from Roadway Express after 13 years of hauling general freight. On December 4, 1949, he married Lorene Lewis of Battle Creek. Meredith and Lorene lived in Marshall for most of their lives and raised four lovely children.

While the children were growing up, Meredith and the family enjoyed Sunday picnics to various favorite spots around the state, always cooking steak on the grill. Trips to a family friend's cabin in Mio, Michigan was a favorite summer pastime. Meredith never wanted to be left out of anything and was a permanent fixture at parties and events with his daughter Stephanie. He was the self-proclaimed construction supervisor for all of Marshall, making weekly trips around town on his bicycle to oversee production and check progress at the jobsites. If things were not up to his standards, he would take his findings to City Hall to request changes; a true grassroots effort! He enjoyed Wednesday breakfast with his buddies for many years. Meredith’s lawn was important to him, and he was meticulous about keeping it in good shape. He could often be found in his front yard on his hand and knees, clipping the grass by hand, even at the age of 91 ½!  He loved sitting in his front yard watching the world go by, often falling asleep in his chair.  He also enjoyed watching airplanes take off and land, spending a lot of time at Brook's Field in Marshall. He loved trains and model trains that his kids enjoyed buying for him. Meredith could talk to anybody about anything, making friends easily and for life. When he turned 80, he went on an Alaskan cruise by himself and was still communicating with friends that he made on that trip. For many years he enjoyed trips to South Haven and Traverse City with his daughter Stephanie and attending CMU and Michigan football games.

He was a member of Marshall Moose Lodge #676 and The United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his Son, Meredith Earl [a.k.a., Mike] (Yon) Wright of Spanaway, WA; Daughter, Stephanie Barrows of Marshall; Bothers, Cliff Wright and Blaine (Marilyn) Wright; three granddaughters: Christina (Eric) Wright of Battle Creek, Patty Wright of Washington, DC, and Veronica (Andrew) Goodell of Port Orchard, WA; and three great-granddaughters, Kiera Wright, Temperance Goodell, and Sierra Goodell.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lorene L. Lewis, daughters, Linda Jane Wright and Kathy Ann Crosnoe, brother, Larry Wright and his parents
