Mary Jean Baker

Mary Jean Baker, age 92, of Marshall, passed away following a battle with Leukemia, on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at The Villa at Winston Court - Senior Living Community.
Mary Jean was born on January 28, 1929 to Harold and Bernadine (Miller) Baker. She was the oldest of eight children. She graduated from Marshall High School class of 1947.
At the age of seventeen she went to work at Michigan Bell Telephone, where she worked for thirty-eight years before retiring to take care of her mother.
In her younger years she enjoyed traveling the United States, Cuba, and Europe. She once attended the Kentucky Derby which she enjoyed watching every year. She was an avid ice skater, loved sports, and collecting perfume bottles.
Faith was central to Mary Jean's life. She was an active member of Grace Baptist Church. She was dedicated to her community and country, generously supporting numerous charities and veterans.
Mary Jean had a great love for family and was looked upon as the matriarch.
She is survived by her siblings, Suzanne Durham, Harold (Audrey) Baker, Larry (Judy) Baker; and her much loved and doted on nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Joan Baker, Carolyn McMillion, Marilyn Demarest and Phyllis Wise.
Friends may gather with the family from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Brandon Crawford. Following the funeral service, a graveside ceremony will be held at Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall.
