Marjorie Dawn (Sizeland) Shedd

September 17, 1928 — April 18, 2020

Marjorie Dawn Shedd (nee Sizeland) age 91 of Albion passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020 in Marshall. She was born in Tekonsha, Michigan on September 17, 1928, the only child of Charles and Hildred (nee Klingaman) Sizeland. She graduated from Tekonsha High School in 1946. On August 21, 1946 she married John Goff Shedd and to that marriage they had three children: John Charles Shedd (Jan), daughter Kathleen Louise Shedd, and William Earle Shedd (Clare). Grandchildren are: John Bradley (Heather), Michael Ryan (Andrea), Trevor James (Ashley), Sarah Michelle, Nicholas Yun Shedd. Her “babies” as she called the great grandchildren: Hannah Margaret Jordan, Avery Jaymes Shedd, Dylan Ryan and Dyce Charles Shedd, Devin Wray Shedd, Chloe Brooklyn Mosley along with her Texas g-grands: Greyson Michael Shedd and Jagger Ryan Shedd.

Those preceding her in death: Husband John Goff Shedd and grandson William (Billy) Jennings Shedd along with her parents and a host of dearly loved Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Marge attended the one room “Windfall” school in Tekonsha through the 9th grade then moving to the Tekonsha High School. She played in the band and excelled in penmanship. Her mother being a teacher; told her practice always makes perfect and her writing was perfect! Marge spent much of her growing up years on her father and mother’s farm, feeding the cattle and chickens, learning how to drive at the tender age of 12 and driving tractors and grain haulers in the fields and to market. She was very active in 4H, which won her many blue ribbons in sewing and baking.

After her husband returned from the service they moved to Big Rapids/Ferris St. where her husband went to Pharmacy School and she raised their young son John. After John’s graduation and licensing, they moved to Lansing for several years before moving to Albion where “Big” John went into business with Floyd Parks of Parks Drug Store, later purchasing the pharmacy and the beautiful building. Marge, being a wonderful homemaker, maintained the home front, raising the children, keeping busy cooking and mending and helping when needed at the store. She was active with Bluebirds, Band-Boosters along with bowling and playing cards with friends and family. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Albion until its closing and then was welcomed into membership at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Albion. She was a long-time member of the Elks and Vivians.

Marge was also known as a caregiver; she had a passion for helping others. Bringing many family members into her home to help them heal from surgery, falls or illnesses.

Marge loved being a grandma more than anything. Having sleepovers with them all, making her special sloppy-joe mix, popping cousin Pete’s popcorn, ice-cream…………if they asked, it was made. Then came the Great-grandkids…………her babies, but sadly she could only spoil them from afar…….for their homes were in Lafayette, Indiana and Dallas, Texas, only two lived in Albion now. But the distance did not stop the spoiling……when there was a will with Grandma Shedd, there was a way. She saw to that!

As her children; we would like to take this time to thank all who took part in giving such good care to our mother while she was a resident at Sunny Side Senior Care (AFC) Home: Eugene and Cindy Moore, Teresa, Nancy, Sue, Pam, Becky, Carole, and Am. To her new friends and residents: Mildred, Ida, Patricia, Red and Ron. “In life there are many paths you can take and many people who share the journey, but it is the special people that help you along the way. Thank you for being those people and new friends. Your love was unconditional.” And to Oaklawn Hospice, another thank you from our hearts. You all are simply the best.
