MARIANNA “ANN” NIEHAUS……OCTOBER 17, 1932 – SEPTEMBER 14, 2022

Marianna Niehaus was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, surrounded by family.

A loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and true friend who shared her love, her guidance, her smile, her faithfulness and kindness for 90 years. Ann was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, in 2020.

Marianna, “Ann”, was born in Evansville, Indiana to Frederick and Helen Schultze, the oldest of four children. She married the love of her life, Ralph Niehaus in 1952 and enjoyed 68 years of wedded bliss raising a family of four beautiful daughters.

Ann loved her family. She was a fixture in the girls’ schools, leading Bluebird and Campfire groups. As a Room Mother at Conley Elementary, she was well-known for playing a “witch” on Halloween, and she chaperoned many class trips. She had a very strong faith and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marshall since moving to Marshall in 1958. She served as an Elder, a Deacon, a member of the Worship Committee, Presbyterian Women’s Association, Choir, and wherever else she was needed. In 2006 she received the Spiritual “Minuteman” Award.

Ann had a smile that could melt the hearts of anyone and never failed to share it with everyone she met. As receptionist for Dr. Frank Burris for 17 years, she could put patients at ease with that smile. And her warmth was demonstrated in many ways, by the care and friendship of her many friends and neighbors, and the visits she received from her daughters’ friends, in some cases decades after the girls were adults.

One of the greatest joys in Ann’s life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who reciprocated the love. And the lucky ones who lived in Michigan were able to enjoy day care at Grandma’s, including the youngest great granddaughter this summer.

Ann’s legacy is one of LOVE…. Love of God, Love of family, Love of friends.

Ann will forever be in the hearts of her family: her daughters, Kathi (Zack) Koczanski of Tampa, FL, Beth (John) Maurer of Duvall, WA, Vickie Niehaus (Brian Carpenter) of Ceresco, and in loving memory of Terry (Marvin) Dunn; her grandchildren, Miranda Gladstone, Katie (Jerame) McKereghan, Lindsey (Kyle) Hughes, Jill (Bo) Fuerstenberg, John Wesley Maurer; great-grandchildren, Alexander & Hannah, Natalee & Conner, Jack & Owen, and Nora Jean. Ann will also live on in the hearts of her siblings, Bettye (Marvin) Stephenson, Frederick Schultze (pre-deceased), and Stephen Schultze; her brothers and sisters in law; and her nieces and nephews.
