Lydia N. Hirscht, age 94, formerly of Albion, MI, died on November 29, 2020 in Tampa, FL. Lydia was born on April 7, 1926 in Toganrog, Russia, the daughter of the late Nikolay and Evfrosinia Sokolow. She came from Russia through Germany, Caracas, Venezuela, and then joined her family in the United States in 1958. She began working at Albion College as a Language Lab Administrator. She continued working at Albion College Book Store until her retirement. She spoke four languages: Russian, German, Spanish, and English. She was married to Victor Edward Hirscht in 1945; he preceded her in death in 1976. Lydia is survived by her son, Genadiy Hirscht, Vladimir "Val" Hirscht and daughter, Tatiana Hirscht; two grandchildren, Derrick Hirscht and Patrick Hirscht; three great-grandchildren, Annabelle Hirscht, Andersen Hirscht and Brogan Hirscht; one brother, Alexander Sokolow.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Edward Hirscht; her parents, Nikolay and Evfrosinia Sokolow; and her daughter-in-law, Contance "Connie" Hirscht.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, 810 Austin Ave, Albion, MI 49224. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the church, with Fr. Joshua Frigerio and Fr. Gregory Joyce officiating. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery in Albion, MI. **Due to Covid-19, social distancing and mask wearing guidelines will be observed.
