Leland Duane Putnam, 69, of Albion, passed away on November 30, 2020 at University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, .

Leland was born, along with his twin sister Linda, on September 29, 1951 in Coldwater, MI to Max and Grace Arlene (Marti) Putnam. He grew up on the family farm on T Drive South between Homer and Tekonsha where he learned to farm with his father. Leland attended Homer Public Schools and was a member of the Homer High School graduating class of 1969.

After graduation Leland farmed and worked a few other jobs before becoming a Corrections Officer for the State of Michigan Prison System. He first served as a guard at the Jackson Prison. In 1980 he transferred to the prison in Saugatuck . Leland was posted there until transferring to Ypsilanti Men's Prison five years later . In 1990 he transferred to the Cotton Prison Facility in Jackson. Leland had earned promotions throughout his career and held the position of Inspector upon his retirement. During his career he lived in Homer, Hamilton, Holland and Brooklyn. He returned to the family farm after retirement and then moved to Albion.

He was married on April 17, 1981 in Allegan to Patricia "Pat" Ambler. The couple have enjoyed a fruitful and loving partnership these past 40 years. .

Leland loved the outdoors. He Liked to fish on their pontoon boat with his kids and grandkids. His family was the most important part of his life. He enjoyed working in yard and around the property. He was an avid bowler during his life, bowling in leagues at Homer M-99 Bowl, Marshall and Jackson. He loved to deer hunt on the farm. His other favorite pastime (which his family approved of!) was cooking of all kinds. He was an excellent cook!.

Leland is survived by his beloved wife Patricia ; children and grandchildren, son Michael (Tracey Reynolds) Putnam of Parma with their children Kaleigh Putnam, Brooklynn and Justin Putnam, Gavin Putnam, Allyson Balfour and Kevyn Balfour, son Jason (Peachie) Putnam of Jackson with their children Ariel , Douglas, Wiley and Trinity Putnam, son Christopher (Katie) Putnam of Marshall with their children Aly and Claire Putnam, and Cori Harris of Marshall with her children Corina Walker and Zoey Irvin; his great-grandchildren Liam Putnam, Nevaeh Puente, Amiyah Puente, Jasper Puente, Lylah Walker and Luke Walker; his twin sister Linda (Gary) Hammontree of Tekonsha , his brothers Larry (Joyce) Putnam of SC and Curtis (Kathryn) Putnam of VA and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A casual memorial gathering for Leland will take place on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 1:00 until 5:00 PM at the Community House in Homer, Michigan.
