Jon Joseph Schnaitman

April 24, 1956 — September 17, 2020

Jon Joseph Schnaitman, 64, lifelong resident of Marshall, MI, died unexpectedly at home, September 17, 2020.

Born April 24, 1956, in Marshall to John F. and Mary Ann (Page) Schnaitman. Jon attended St. Mary Catholic school and was a graduate of Marshall Public Schools.

On June 17, 1979, Jon married Sharon Marie Pierce at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshall.

Jon's hard work ethic was on display in his early years at his parent's restaurant, the Fireside Inn - after the restaurant's closing he continued his work in the hospitality industry at the Wag-On Inn and Schuler's Restaurant. He also operated Schnaitman Brothers Painting with his brother Eric. Jon ended his work career at Marshall Brass (Tribal Manufacturing), retiring in 2019.

Jon was an avid sports fan - cheering on the Michigan State Spartans, Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Vikings. Spending time fishing at Stuart's Landing with his best friend Bill Heckman and cooking big dinners for his family and friends meant so much to him. There was nothing more important to him than his family. Many fond memories were made around the fire pit at Schnaitman Park, ones of which his family and friends will hold close to their heart.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years Sharon; sons Jason (Katy Shalley) Schnaitman, Ian (Jai) Gilyard-Schnaitman; daughter Kelsey (Matt Eash) Schnaitman; grandchildren John and Thomas Schnaitman, Christopher Blankenship, Phoenix, Quincy, and Gus Gilyard-Schnaitman; brothers James (Dina) Schnaitman, Dan (Susie) Schnaitman, Robert (Javene) Schnaitman, Eric (Benet) Schnaitman; and several nieces and nephews.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Jack F. and Mary Ann Schnaitman, sister Sue Ann Schnaitman, brother Thomas Schnaitman, and nephew Kyle Schnaitman.

A memorial service will take place on Tuesday September 22, 2020 at 2:00pm at the Line Point - Stuart Lake 1481 Orchard Drive, Marshall, with a celebration of Jon's life immediately following the service with his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family to help with funeral expenses at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services 723 Old US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, Michigan 49068.
