John Rusan

John Rusan, age 92, of Battle Creek passed away at home on Thursday, April 11, 2019, surrounded by his family following a long illness.
John was born on July 8, 1926, in Battle Creek to Steve and Katherine Rusan. He attended Battle Creek Schools. He joined the United States Navy in 1944, served in the South Pacific, and was honorably discharged in 1946. On January 25, 1951, he married Dolores M. Robinson.
John retired from the Kellogg Company in 1988, after working for 28 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was known for his sense of humor, cooking, baking, and "the one that got away" stories. He enjoyed spending time with his family and poochie dog Missy, watching a baseball or football game, and reading books.
John is survived by his wife of 68 years Dolores; children, Steven (JoAnn), Deborah, Kim, Mark (Kathy), Amy (Paul); ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank, and sister Rose.
Family will gather with friends from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at the Battle Creek Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 2838 Capital Avenue SW. Funeral services celebrating his life will take place at 11:30 am on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at the Battle Creek Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services with Reverend James Codde officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Battle Creek. Memorial donations may be made to Great Lake Hospice. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
