Jesse W. "Jess" Engle, 76, of Ceresco died on Monday April 22, 2019, at his home.
Jess was born on October 17, 1942 in Belmont, Mississippi to Bob and Mae (Hicks) Engle. He graduated from Springfield high school in 1962. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1964 was honorably discharged in 1966. On August 13, 1967, he married Kathryn Eyre in Marshall at Zion Lutheran Church. After he was married, he attended Western Michigan University earning a bachelor's degree and two masters. Jess taught in the Marshall Public School system for 30 years. He retired in 2001. Prior to that he worked for ten years at Post Cereals in Battle Creek. Jess was a member of the Marshall Country Club and former member of the Medalist Golf Club. He was an avid golfer and would often play two rounds in one day. He also enjoyed spending the winters in Florida, collecting and farming.
He is survived by his wife, of 51 years Kathryn of Ceresco; children, Craig (Shari) Engle of Ceresco and Beth (Philip) Nichols of Battle Creek; and grandchildren, Avery, Landon, and Grayson. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Hope Jessica Engle in 1968; brothers, Paul Engle and Billy Engle; and a sister Dorothy Eason.
Family will greet friends from 4-7pm on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Marshall Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Service, 723 US 27 North Marshall. Funeral services celebrating his life will take place at 11am on Friday, April 26, 2019, at the Marshall Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Brad Hubbard officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Family will gather with friends following the committal services at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services Reception Hall Marshall Chapel. Memorial contributions are requested to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) or to St. Mark Lutheran Church.
