James "Jimmy" Jones

June 10, 1961 — June 6, 2022

Marshall

James Bruce (Jimmy) Jones gained his wings and went home to be with the Lord and his mom on June 6th, 2022, just 4 days short of his 61st birthday. Jimmy was the firstborn son of Roger and Judy Jones, formally of Marshall. Jimmy was born developmentally disabled and faced many challenges in life, but lack of love and care was never a challenge! He was loved by all who knew and cared for him. Jimmy was blessed with the incredible, dedicated caregivers and the other residents of the adult foster homes he resided in, who became family as they cared for and did life with him over the years.

Jimmy was always happy, loving and the first to greet people who visited his home. He was quick with a “hi”, hugs, hand holding and laying his head on your chest. Jimmy was sometimes referred to as Scooby Doo by the staff, as Scooby Doo was his favorite cartoon. He was mesmerized by Scooby and could often be found watching his Scooby videos or in his room surrounded by many Scooby’s. Jimmy also loved the outings the staff would take him on, especially the ones where he was able to swing in the parks.

Jimmy is survived by his father and stepmom Roger and Stepmother Gay Jones of Albion; his sister Karen Jones of Mt. Pleasant SC; his brother Bob (Agnieszka) Jones of Mt Pleasant SC; nephew and niece Alex and Maja Jones of Mt. Pleasant SC; stepbrother Pat (Heather) Coats of Battle Creek; nephew Ryan Coats of Chicago; niece Lizzy Coats of Kalamazoo; and stepsister Vannessa Coats of Edgewater, New Jersey. Jimmy is also survived by 5 very special men who lived with him in the Homer Road AFC home, who we referred to as his brothers.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his mom, Judy Jones, in 2017.

A Memorial Service for Jimmy will be held at 11:00 am on August 5th, at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services in Marshall, with Pastor Penny Pitts officiating.

Those wishing to may make any contributions in Jim’s name are welcome to do so at Glen Arbor Hospice of Battle Creek or Special Olympics.
