James Bruce McFadden

James Bruce McFadden, age 96, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.

Bruce was born in Tekonsha Township on February 23, 1927, to Ralph and Mignon McFadden. He attended Tekonsha High School. Bruce worked at Kellogg’s for thirty-three years, retiring in 1986, and was a member of the twenty-five-year club. He belonged to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and yardwork, as well as traveling and visited destinations such as Fort Myers Beach, Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Canada. Bruce’s first marriage to Jeanette McFadden ended in divorce. He later was united in marriage with Margaret Schwartz on July 8, 1977.

Bruce is survived by his children, Patricia VanValkenburg, James (Julie Gates) McFadden Jr., and Karen (Dwight) S. Wilbourn; stepchildren, Joanne Klukowski and David Swartz; a brother, Melvin Joseph McFadden; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret McFadden; parents; and brothers, Ralph D. McFadden and Walter McFadden.

Friends may visit with the family from 12 pm - 1 pm on Monday, September 18, 2023, at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068, where the funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Rev. Julie Elmore and Rev. Chad Parmalee will officiate the service, with interment to follow in Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
