Ivan K. Fleser

September 10, 1919 — July 27, 2018

Ivan K. Fleser, age 98, of Marshall entered into his heavenly home on July 27, 2018. He was born in Burnips, MI, the son of William and Grace (Brady) Fleser. He was one of eight children, two sisters and five brothers.
While teaching at Albion High School, Joe Cooper introduced him to Betty Kraushaar in the fall of 1948. They were married August 4, 1951, the year he joined the Marshall School Systems. Ivan and Betty shared 61 loving years together until her passing in 2012. They had one child, Deborah, she married David Aditays in November 1977. They were blessed with three children, Jessica, Jonathan, and Amanda, each a lifelong delight.
Ivan was a graduate of Western Michigan University. He was co-captain of Western's Baseball team his junior and senior years. In his senior year at Western he played in the first college all-star game at Fenway Park.
He served in the WWII Pacific Campaign, a copilot/navigator attached to a patrol bomber squadron. During his preflight training at University of North Carolina, Ivan was privileged to play baseball with several major league players including Ted Williams.
During his years at Marshall High School Ivan was the announcer of MHS sports, fans will recall "Welcome to Redskin Country." He was honored to give the commencement address for the class of 1984, the year he retired. Ice fishing was Ivan's favorite pastime.
Serving God was a lifelong privilege. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and supported many missionaries through the ministry of the World Gospel Mission. Ivan was a member of the American Bible Society since 1962. He and friends rang the Christmas bells for the Salvation Army as well as being a helping hand at the Southwest Food Bank of Michigan.
Ivan is survived by his daughter, Deborah (David) Aditays of Shrewsbury, MA; and grandchildren, Jessica Lynn, Jonathan David, and Amanda Leigh. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Grace Fleser; wife, Betty Fleser; sister, Avis Shoemaker, and Faith Kleis; and brothers, Harry Fleser, Roger Fleser, Arthur Fleser, Calvin Fleser, and Donald Fleser.
Ivan donated his body to the University of Michigan Medical School. A memorial service will take place at the Marshall United Methodist Church located at 721 Old US 27 North in Marshall on Wednesday August 1, 2018 at 11am.
Gifts in his memory may be given to the Marshall United Methodist Church located at 721 Old US 27 North in Marshall.
