Grant C. Myers Jr.

June 24, 1940 — September 19, 2020

Grant C. Myers Jr, 80, of Tekonsha died on Saturday September 19, 2020 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital following a short illness.

Grant was born on June 24, 1940 in Lee Township to Grant and Elsie (Lybolt) Myers. He attended Marshall High School. On October 1, 1961 he married Shirley Laing at the First Baptist Church in Marshall.

Grant farmed in the Fredonia Township area his whole life. He worked for several years at Ronan & Kunzel in Marshall until the company closed in the 1990s. When Ronan &Kunzel closed he went to work with his son Doug's farming operation, and his granddaughter's Cattle Operation which he did until his passing. Grant enjoyed keeping up with the vast changes in the farm industry, and learning the new technology. Grant was a founding member of the Calhoun County Yesteryears Tractor Club and enjoyed showing off his John Deere and Ford Tractors at several events, and he would always be seen at the Calhoun County Fair sitting and talking with his many friends and family at the Tractor Exhibit or the Livestock Barns at the fairgrounds. He also enjoyed being a 4-H Leader for years and helping his children, grandchildren and recently his great grandchildren show in many areas of the fair. He also was very proud of being part of the work force in adding the handicap ramp onto the grandstand. They also were active members of the B.E. Henry Association, and the Fredonia Grange.

Grant and Shirley enjoyed camping, and they would travel all over the country camping with their family and friends. Camping at Hartwick Pines was a favorite time where Grant would help at the sawmill with the making of wood shingles during black iron days. He was a proud grandfather, and he was an avid support of all of his grandchildren at their events they participated, but he especially enjoyed the time spent with his great-grandchildren. Grant will be forever remembered with his friendly smile, his jokes, and how no one was ever a stranger he was a friend to everyone.

He is survived by his wife Shirley; children, Doug (Angie) Myers, Kim (Alan) Mowry and Shelly (Ted) Densmore; grandchildren, Sara Mowry, Erik (Brittnie) Myers, Amy Mowry, and Katie (Andrew) Kellogg; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Betty (Robert) Fairchild and Janet (Fred) Garcia. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Norma Willey.
