Geraldine F. “Jerry” Briegel, 91, of Marshall died on Monday October 4, 2021, at The Villa of Winston Court surrounded by her family following a short illness.
Jerry was born on September 8, 1930, in Marshall to Clay and Cecil (Camp) Van Zandt. He father would die from TB before her birth. Many years later she would find his WWI doughboy helmet at the museum in Augusta, Michigan. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1948. In her younger days she would spend many summers at County Fairs helping her mother and Elmer Farlow with their cook house. While at the Centerville, Gailen proposed to Jerry. On September 2, 1949, they were married in Angola, Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 21, 2009.
Jerry was a homemaker staying home to raise her family. She was a member of the Marshall Women of the Moose, The Wagon Wheels Square Dancing Club, and the Rolling Wheels Camping Club. She and Gailen enjoyed camping at Tri-Lake Trails Campground for many years with square dancing friends and especially evenings sitting around the campfire. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially supporting her grandchildren. Jerry would be a fixture at all the grandchildren’s sporting events or 4-H activities
She is survived by her children, Brian (Billie) Briegel, Bruce Briegel, Brent (Karen) Briegel, and Gayle (Gary) Raymond; grandchildren, Terri (Danielle) Raymond, Celeste (Paul) Kelley, Becky (Cassie Campbell) Briegel, Brooke (Kip) Kidder, Bradley Briegel, Brittany Briegel, and Bracie (Ivan) Carter; eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters Vada Shaw and Marjorie Mosier.
Visitation will take place from 1pm-3pm on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services 723 US Hwy 27 N Marshall MI 49068. Funeral services will take place at 11am on Monday, October 11, 2021, at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services 723 US Hwy 27 N Marshall MI 49068. Interment will follow at Lyon Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions are requested to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
