Geneva L. “Jean” Thompson, 93, of Marshall, Michigan passed away on April 30, 2023, at her residence surrounded by the love of her family.

Jean was born on September 21, 1929, to Fred and Nancy (Kidd) Hightower in Lee Springs (Knoxville), TN. And at the very young age, W. “Woody” Hood would become Jeans’ beloved dad. On March 28, 1948, she married Joseph Reed in Dearborn, Michigan. Joe and Jean enjoyed the blessing of their 5 sons and 46 years together before he passed away in 1994. Some years later, on August 25, 2001, she married John Thompson. At that time Jean was then blessed with 4 more children that John brought with him in to her life, they all enjoyed their time together. John passed away in 2009.

Jean worked as a secretary for almost 25 years. Beginning with her church, Belleville Presbyterian Church, where she was a founding member; then finishing at Horst Manufacturing in Belleville. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Belleville Chapter. Jean was an avid reader and gardener; she also enjoyed square dancing, camping, traveling, her church life and especially cherished her family.

Jean is survived by her 9 loving children, John (Darlene) Reed of Wayne, MI, Jim (Ronda) Reed of Belleville, MI, Joe Reed of Belleville, MI, Jerry Reed of Belleville, MI, Jack (Lisa) Reed of Marshall, MI, John (Jan) Thompson of Belmont, MI, Mary (Jim) Kelly of Thompsonville, MI, Betty (Rich) Schroeder of Waseca, MN, Beth (Mike) Kummeth of Mishawaka, IN; 31 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and brother, Ed Hood of Pinckney, MI.

She was preceded in death by father, Fred D. Hightower, mother, Nancy “Katy” Wineman, dad, W. "Woody" Hood; and husbands, Joseph L. Reed, and John T. Thompson.

For the convenience of everyone desiring to celebrate Jeans’ life with her family, they have planned two sets of services. On Friday, May 5, 2023, visitation will be held at Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, Michigan, 49068 from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm, Pastor Dave Moran officiating. Then on Saturday, May 6, 2023, visitation will be held at Belleville Presbyterian Church, 11900 Belleville Road, Belleville, MI 48111 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. The funeral will begin at 12:00 pm with an Order of the Eastern Star service, Pastor Dave Moran officiating. A committal service will follow at Hillside Cemetery, 46795 Denton Road, Belleville, MI 48111.
