Gary Albert Gillett

September 30, 1939 — June 27, 2019

Gary Albert Gillett, 79, of Marshall passed away quietly, surrounded by loved ones and cared for by Oaklawn Hospice on June 27, 2019.

Gary enjoyed a quiet, private life with family and close friends, spending time sitting on the river, playing cards, and golfing. He was a skilled wood craftsman and masonry and had a side hobby pouring concrete with "D and G Construction Company" with one of his lifelong friends.

It was Gary's desire to not have a funeral service, so that, as in life, his death was private. Please celebrate Gary's life in your own personal way, and know that he and his family felt the support of all of his lifetime friendships and family relationships during these past weeks.

Gary was born on September 30, 1939 to George and Maxine (Fillingham) Gillett, both of whom preceded him in death. Gary was a loving husband to his wife of 59 years, Starr Gillett. Together, they raised two children; Terri Gillett and Todd Gillett. Gary is survived by his brother, Robert; wife, Starr; children, Terri and Todd; and 8 grandchildren.

Gary was a 1957 graduate of Maple Valley Schools and enjoyed many class reunions over the 62 years since he graduated. Upon graduation he moved to Marshall, where he worked for Felpausch Family Food Centers until he retired in 2007. During his working days, he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, Christmas Parade Committee, Junior Achievement, and Oaklawn Hospital Board.

Cremation has been conducted in accordance with Gary's wishes. A memorial service in his honor will be held at Todd's house on the river July 13, 2019.

The family is being served by the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 Old US 27 North, Marshall Chapel.
