Evelyn Lucille Hughes

March 30, 1929 — January 13, 2022

Marshall

Evelyn Lucille Hughes, age 92, of Marshall, passed away on January 13, 2022. Evelyn was born on March 30, 1929, the daughter of the late Elon and Anniece (Greening) Hiscock.

She attended Lakeview High School, where she met her future husband Norwood (Bud) Hughes. They were married on August 12, 1946. They had four children, Karen (Phil) Buys, Christine (Dennis) Jeffery, Brian Hughes, and Thomas Hughes.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Bud; son, Thomas; her parents, Elon and Anniece; brother, Richard Hiscock; and nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.

She was the grandmother of eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was a homemaker, helped with the animals on her and Bud’s Farms. Her favorite memory was nursing an injured fawn back to health, that she named Bambi.

Evelyn was a very hard worker who loved her big garden and picking and selling sweet corn to neighbors and friends. She also enjoyed taking care of her flowers.

In later years, after they retired, Evelyn and Bud would travel the United States in their motor home, visiting all fifty states. After her husband’s passing, she would spend Sundays with her daughter going for long rides, followed by watching old movies with a dog and cat lying by her side.

She was a great mother who would always do for others before herself. She would take care of her neighbors when they were in need.

A private family graveside service will take place in Oakridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society of South-Central Michigan. Arrangements were entrusted to Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068.
