Ernest A. "Ernie" Schroder, 88, of Marshall passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Oaklawn Hospital following a short illness.
Ernie was born August 8, 1929 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Miles F. and Lela (Dickey) Schroder. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1948. Ernie served in the United States Army during the Korean War and he was honorably discharged in 1955. Ernest married Shirley Ann Ballance in the First Congregational Church in Battle Creek on February 4, 1956.
Ernie started working with Michigan Bell Telephone Company in 1948 and retired in 1987. He was a member of the Marshall Lions Club, a former member of the Frist Congregational Church in Battle Creek, and the Michigan Telephone Pioneers of America. He served on the Marshall Township Board of Review for many years. Ernie was an avid golfer and bowler and took part in different leagues. He enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, yard work, gardening, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by Wife, Shirley Ann Schroder of Marshall; Son, Michael (Gladys) Schroder of Gladstone; Daughter, Valinta (John Michael) Robinson-Schnable of Oxford; Daughter, Phyllis A. Schroder of Tinton Falls, New Jersey; Son, Steven (Sue) Schroder of Portage; Brother, Frank (Ingrid) Schroder of Afton, Minnesota; Grandchildren Jeff, Robert, Joshua, Sarah, Mitch, Haley, Evan, Lela, and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Brother, Paul Schroder; and Brother, Rex Schroder.
Family will greet friends on Saturday, March 31, 2018 from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM with a funeral service taking place at 3:00 PM at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services Marshall Chapel 723 US 27 North Marshall with Pastor Charles Winter officiating. Interment will follow at Hotchkiss Cemetery. Memorial contributions are requested to Oaklawn Hospital CCU. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
