Duane Edward VanMeter

Duane Edward VanMeter, 78, of Homer, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023 in the hospital with his wife by his side.

Duane was born on January 14, 1945 to Harold VanMeter and Annetta (Covey) VanMeter-Clay in Homer, Michigan. He graduated from Homer High School in 1963. Duane worked for Union Steel Products in Albion for 30 years as a factory worker.

Duane married the love of his life, Jill Jones on March 7, 1964. They spent 59 wonderful years together.

One of Duane’s passions was woodworking. He could build just about anything. Duane made intricate antique model cars and many other beautiful projects out of wood. He liked to maintain his lawn and gardens. Duane loved to spend time with his family.  He also loved his faithful canine companion, KT (Katie). He was excited to go home to be with his Lord and Savior.

Duane is survived by his wife, Jill VanMeter; his children, Scott VanMeter, Tina VanMeter, Brian (Cheri) VanMeter; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Cole; brother, Donald (Kathy) VanMeter; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John VanMeter; and sisters, Sandy Carty and Kathryn Ball.

Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at Anchor Baptist Church at 2pm on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

Memorial contributions in honor of Duane can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
