Dorothy P. (Potts) Witmyer

February 3, 1925 — February 17, 2021

Dorothy P. Witmyer, 96, of Battle Creek died on Wednesday February 17, 2021, at her daughter's home surrounded by her family following a long illness.
Dorothy was born on February 3, 1925, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania to Howard and Viola (Thickell) Potts. She graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in 1943. She met Lee H. Witmyer, on a blind date in Wilkinsburg while he was on leave from the Army during World War II. On July 28, 1945 they were married at the United Methodist Church in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. He preceded her in death on September 18, 1994.
Dorothy along with her husband Lee, owned and operated their own restaurant for many years. The first one was in Logansport, Indiana and later moved to Coldwater to the B and K Drive In. Dorothy was the cook, and she would prepare all the food the night before at her home to make sure everything was cooked fresh. They retired in 1990, when they sold the business to enjoy their retirement. Dorothy was an avid volunteer at the Cancer Unit at Coldwater Hospital. She was nominated as volunteer of the year, and she was proud to wear her awards on her name badge while volunteering her time at the hospital.
She is survived by her children, Pamela (Edgar) Kirkland, Deborah (Steven) Craven, and Kevin Witmyer; five grandchildren Christin (Steve) Berry, Jason Piper, Trevor (Theresa) Hogan, Travis (Billie Jean) Hogan Ian Witmyer; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers, Donald Potts, and Howard Potts Jr.
