Dorothy Mae (Wheeler) DeLaney

July 4, 1926 — May 26, 2020

Dorothy Mae ( Wheeler) DeLaney

Dorothy M. DeLaney (93) of Marshall, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 26, 2020.

Dorothy was born on July 4, 1926, the daughter of Clarence and Bessie (Seeley) Wheeler in Eckford Township. Dorothy attended Marshall High School and was a majorette for 3 years. She loved marching in the band. She married her high school sweetheart Kenneth (Jack) DeLaney in 1944.

In 1946 when Jack called from Camp Atterbury, Indiana (a separation center for the US Army) and said he would be discharged the next day, she excitedly went to work (Secretary at Sam Leggitt’s), cleaned out her desk, and promptly quit!

Dot later went back to work at the Health Dept. for two years. But being raised on a farm, she became an exceptional homemaker and a mother of three. She was also a great cook and baker, with many guests remembering her famous cookies, cakes, and pies!

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Dolores Hardy, son Charles DeLaney, and son-in-law Brad Kellogg, as well as her siblings and their spouses: Ruth (Ross) Snyder, Lloyd (Kathryn) Wheeler, Allen (Virginia) Wheeler, Don (Virginia)(Marge) Wheeler and Wayne (Loretta) Wheeler;

She is survived by Jack, her husband of 75 years and her daughter Carol Kellogg, grandsons Tyler (Jess Guthrie) Kellogg and Robert Mack, granddaughters Brandi Lepper and Melinda Fisher, several great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
