David K. Grandy

August 31, 1935 — March 10, 2020

David Kaye Grandy, of Marshall, passed away on March 10, 2020, aged 84. Dave was born in Battle Creek on August 31, 1935, as the son of the late Clarence and Hazel (Peinney) Grandy. Graduating from Marshall High School in 1955, Dave loved to farm with his father and was a dedicated member of FFA.

He went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1956 – 1958, then worked at Eaton Inc. in Marshall for the next 37 years. During this time, Dave was an avid bowler. He was a part of numerous competitive bowling groups, including the Eaton League and the Schuler’s Team, taking home many gold trophies. Dave was also a past member of the Moose Lodge #676, which is where he met the love of his life, Janet A. Grandy, married on December 10, 1983. While the two were together for 39 loving years, Dave and Jan will remain soulmates forever.

After his retirement, Dave ventured on to fulfill his lifelong love of farming. He started an extremely successful gardening and brush hogging business that he continued to maintain with an energetic and youthful spirit throughout his life. When he wasn’t hard at work, Dave enjoyed traveling with his lovely wife. Whether they went camping up north in Ludington or down south in Sebring, Florida, Dave and Jan loved to square dance together; they were the best around!

Most important of all, Dave was the perfect husband, father, grandpa, and friend that every man should strive to be. He was always finding ways to lend a hand and would open his heart to anybody in need. Dave dedicated himself to his family and proved to be an outstanding role model for all of those that looked up to him. He was a kind, compassionate, wonderful human, and will be deeply missed by all of us that were touched by his presence.

Dave is survived by his wife Janet A. Grandy; daughter, Janine K. Robinson, and son, Martin D. Grandy; stepdaughter, Sheri L. Gillett; grandchildren, Maycee L. McClure, Landon S. McClure, Gary Reide Gillett, and Todd Rylan Gillett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Hazel Grandy; and his brother, Gene Grandy.
