Obituary

Clifford LaMarr "Stub" Weers, 86, passed away on October 05, 2020 at Grand Vista Assisted Living Community in Marshall with his family by his side..

Clifford was born on November 08, 1933 in Marshall to Clifford and Alzada (DeCant) E. Weers.

Until his father's death he was called LaMarr by his family. During his life he was nicknamed "Stub" by his friends.

Clifford attended Porter District School until high school. The family lived on US HWY 27 N near N Drive North, and LaMarr's father had a barber shop in Olivet. Clifford and his sister Gloria rode into Olivet with their father for high school classes each day. He graduated from Olivet High School in 1952.

After high school he worked at the Oliver Aircraft Corporation in Battle Creek. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 serving with the Army of Occupation. in Germany until his honorable discharge. He met his wife Marvel at a dance at a dance hall in Charlotte. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage in August 21, 1955 at Gresham United Methodist Church in Gresham. After his honorable discharge in May of 1955 he returned to Marshall and went to work at the Marshall Elevator for a year before.

In 1956 Clifford left Marshall Elevator to start his career at Kellogg Company in 1956. He worked there for 32 years in the Sheet Metal Department until retiring in 1988.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for his entire life, being confirmed there. Clifford was a member of Moose Lodge #676. He was an avid Michigan outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He bowled in Marshall leagues, and golfed in the Moose League at Alwyn Downs. He loved to dance with his wife! After their retirement, they spent winters in Pine Island , Florida. He fished in Florida in the winter and in the spring they went Walleye fishing in Michigan's upper peninsula with Marvel fishing right along side of him. .

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Gloria Volstromer, and grandson Eric Weers.

Clifford is survived by his beloved wife Marvel , their son Martin Weers of Niles; grandchildren Alisha Gruenwald, Laura Weers , Morgan Baughman , Marjorie Brown , Briannah Hacker , Amber Weers , and Emma Weers ; great-grandchildren Josh , Marlo , and Parker; and nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received Friday, October 9, 2020 at 4:00 PM at Kempf Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N Marshall, MI 49068, (269) 781-9858.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 10, 2020 at the funeral home with Reverend Anthony Voltattorni officiating. A luncheon will be served following the service at the funeral home's reception hall. Entombment will follow the luncheon at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Battle Creek.

Pallbearers are nephews Wayne Simpson, Greg Simpson, Kevin Barnes, Craig Volstromer, Grand Simpson and Brady Simpson.
