Charles William Funk

March 11, 1936 — February 26, 2020

Charles William Funk, 83, of Marshall passed away on February 26, 2020, with family by his side at Grand Vista Assisted Living of Marshall.

Charles was born on March 11, 1936, in Highland Park, Michigan, to Delmer and Bertha Funk.  He received his BA in Engineering from Purdue University and was a proud Purdue alum.  On September 3, 1960, he married Judith Sprouls in Allen County, Indiana.  She survives to cherish his memory.  They shared 59 great years together and were blessed with three wonderful children.

Charles was an outstanding engineer for many years working in mechanical engineering for Eaton Fluid Power division in Marshall and aeronautical engineering for National Water Lift in Kalamazoo, before retiring in 1995.  He and Judy enjoyed many years of travels, with trips to the northeast and out west to the Canadian Rockies being among their favorite destinations.  He loved old cars, especially Thunderbirds, beginning with his purchase of a new 1957 Ford Thunderbird upon graduating Purdue.  He enjoyed watching basketball with his wife, especially the Boilermakers.  He was a wonderful and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Charles is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Kristine (John) Gelletich of Battle Creek and granddaughters Mindy (Corey), Emily (Tracy) and Courtney (Collin & son Brayden) Shephard, son Mike (Deb) Funk of Battle Creek and grandchildren Devon, Billy and Ciara and son Steve (Susie) Funk of Granger, Indiana and granddaughters Lauren and Allison, as well as several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Family meant the world to him.  His extended family will all greatly miss him, as they cherish the memories of many wonderful times with dad and granddad.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister Barbara Luttermoser, whose husband Earl also survives in Ohio.

The family would like to thank the many special aides at Grand Vista, several of who became very close to Charlie as well as great friends to Judy.

Per his request, his body will be cremated and there will be no funeral or memorial service. Kempf Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI is handling the arrangements.
