Carol G (Deierlein) Shackell entered the Church Triumphant, to be with her Lord Jesus on Nov 27th, 2022, with her family at her side. She was born June 23, 1930 in Detroit, the daughter of Richard and Helen (Finzel) Deierlein. Carol was baptized into the Christian Faith in July 1930 and confirmed her baptism on April 18, 1943. On May 27, 1961, she was united in holy wedlock to Rev. Maurice G. Shackell. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Daniel and Julie.

All of Carol’s schooling was done in Detroit Schools. She graduated from Denby High School and attended Wayne University. She was employed by the Detroit Public Schools, at it’s main building, downtown Detroit and then through promotion, worked at Southeast High School as office manager. She was an avid sports fan, especially the Detroit Tigers.

Carol was a stay-at-home mother through her children’s school days. She volunteered at their schools and helped at the churches where Maurice served as pastor. Lastly, she worked at the Marshall Community Credit Union for 11 years before retiring.

From around the age of 7, music became a huge part of Carol’s life. She took piano lessons from the age of 10, at the Detroit Conservatory of Michigan, located in the cultural center, in midtown Detroit. She would later teach piano to the children of her church. Carol was particularly happy to sing in the church choir. She was an avid member of the alto section. She was one of four alto’s that annually spent a week of vacation, in Traverse City.

Carol is survived by her Children, Daniel (Christie) Shackell of Englewood, FL, and Julie (Randy) Taylor of Marshall, MI; Grandchildren, Zachary Charles and Caitlin Rose Taylor, Brother Paul (Peggy) Deierlein.
