Betty Jeanne Valentine, age 86, of Marshall passed away March 29, 2019 at Sunnyside Adult Foster Care Facility in Marshall.
Betty was born on February 14, 1933 in Oak Park, IL to John Edwin and Jeanne M. (Boutelle) Reynolds. She married Richard Alfred "Dick" Valentine on August 22, 1954 in Greenville, MI. They had 3 children and shared 61 loving years together until his passing on October 27, 2015.
Betty graduated from Hillsdale College with a bachelor's degree in Education. She stayed at home raising the kids while they were young, and when they became old enough, Betty went to work as a substitute English Teacher for Marshall Public Schools. She also worked as a receptionist for the Marshall Advisor-Chronicle for several years.
Betty enjoyed sewing, cooking, and making clothes. She made a lot of her own clothing, as well as her children's clothes. Betty was also a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marshall.
Betty is survived by her children, Michael (Lynne) Valentine of Marshall, Kevin (Jackie) Valentine of Hastings, and Neoma (Robert) Petty of La Mesa, CA; grandchildren, Alexis Valentine, Elijah Valentine, Jourdan Valentine, Eric Kepler, Shawn Valentine, and Audrey Valentine; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Connie (John) Beard of Fenton, MI; brother, John Reynolds of FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Valentine; parents, Edward and Jean Reynolds; sister, Bonnie Mooney; and brother, Edwin Reynolds.
Visitation will be held at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 Old US 27 North, Marshall Chapel on Monday April 15, 2019 from 6-8p with family present to greet friends at that time. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday April 16, 2019 at 1pm. Betty will be laid to rest next to Dick in Oakridge Cemetery following the service.
