Betsy and Cheyenne Marshall

Betsy Karlene Hammond Marshall and Cheyenne Marie Marshall, both of Marshall, MI, passed away on January 27, 2022. Betsy, mother of Cheyenne, was born on May 16, 1976, in Battle Creek, MI. Cheyenne was born on August 26, 2003, in Marshall, MI. 

Betsy was a graduate of Albion High School, before enlisting in the United States Air Force. She worked as a truck driver for Goodwill Industries and most recently for Davis Auto in Charlotte. She is survived by her mother, Brenda Nicely; her son, Sebastian Marshall; grandson, CJ Marshall; her former husband, Clifford Michael Marshall; and two brothers, James Hammond Jr. and Orran Hammond. She is preceded in death by her father, James Michael Hammond Sr. and her stepfather Boyd Nicely.

Cheyenne was a graduate of Marshall Opportunity High School and was attending Olivet College. She was described as someone who loved life and she enjoyed singing. She is survived by her father, Clifford Michael Marshall; her brother, Sebastian Marshall; nephew, CJ Marshall; grandmother, Anita Marshall; grandmother, Brenda Nicely; and her aunts Gina Alires and Christine Rogers. She is preceded in death by grandfather, Clifford Marshall; grandfather, James Michael Hammond Sr. and aunt Mary Lands.

Betsy and Cheyenne were inseparable and loved each other dearly. They will be deeply missed by all their family and friends. A celebration of life gathering will take place from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068. A committal service will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI 49012, at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022. Military honors will be conducted for Betsy by the United States Air Force. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Calhoun County Animal Center, 165 Union St S, Battle Creek, MI.
