Austreberto "Albert" (Mejia) Arizmendi

May 16, 1931 — March 29, 2020

Austreberto “Albert” Arizmendi, age 88, of Marshall died Sunday, March 29, 2020 at his home in the loving care of his family.

Mr. Arizmendi was born on May 16, 1931 in Coatepec Harinas, Mexico to Aurelio Arizmendi Mendoza and Marie del Refuio Mejia Vilchis.

He set out for a better life in the United States in 1949 as a very young man.  He traveled throughout the country for several years as a farm worker.  He saw many parts of the country including Missouri, Arkansas, Nevada, California and eventually settling in Laredo, TX. Where he worked for Ewin Farms for several years.  After moving to Marshall, he worked at the Albion Malleable Iron Co., Engineering Castings and retired from Clark Equipment Company after many years of dedicated service.  Following his retirement from Clarks, he worked as a Security Guard for the Pinkerton Security Services.

On December 14, 1957, he married the late Ruby Shepherd in Marshall.  They were married for 47 years at the time of her death in 2005,

He enjoyed horse racing, playing the lottery, family vacations and taking walks.  But he is most known for his kind, loving personality and his great love of talking to people.  He was always happy to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  Every person he met was his friend.

He is survived by his children, Sarita (Dale) Parlin of Athens, Arturo (Cindy) Arizmendi of Ceresco, Laurie (Tony) Gladstone of Marshall and Therese (Steve) Pattinson of Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren, Amber Arizmendi of Marshall, Miranda (Ryan) Bolton of Marshall, Natalia Embry of Marshall, Lindsey (Kyle) Hughes of Marshall, Lauren Arizmendi of Kalamazoo, Andrew (Jamie) Arizmendi of Battle Creek, Audra (Jon) Jennings of Marshall, Jacob Baker of Kalamazoo, Stephen Pattinson, Jr. of Santa Fe, NM, Reid Arizmendi of Arvada, Co, Amber Leigh Arizmendi of Grand Rapids, and Clifford Pattinson of Chenega, AK; and 16 great grandchildren.  Also survived by sisters, Sara Arizmendi Mejia, Yolanda Nava Mejia, Maria Guadalupe Arizmendi Mejia, Elena Arizmendi Mejia; brother, Miguel Arizmendi Mejia; special brothers and sisters in law; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Arizmendi-Baker, his parents and a twin brother, Enrique Arizmendi Mejia.

**Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, a private visitation and services will be conducted at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068 on Monday.  A public memorial service will be held at a late date.

Friends who wish may make memorial contribution to Meals on Wheels or the Food Bank of South-Central Michigan.  Assistance with memorials is available through the funeral home.
