Anita L. (Gulley) Embury

Anita L. Embury, 82, of Battle Creek died on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Bronson Battle Creek following a short illness.

Anita was born on December 1, 1937 in Battle Creek to John and Gertrude (Rea) Gulley.  She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1955.  On July 10, 1955 she married Wendell P. Embury in Battle Creek.  He preceded her in death on May 9, 2019.

Anita was a home maker staying home to care for her family and also caring for 37 foster children over the years.  She was a member of Central Christian Church in Battle Creek, First Christian Church in Arcadia, FL, and the church that was close to their fishing camp in Canada.  Anita was very crafty and enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and she would knit mittens and crochet blankets and clothes for area schools, shelters and family. She, along with her husband enjoyed volunteering many hours at the hospital in Arcadia FL.  Anita enjoyed singing with her siblings, and playing the piano and organ for the church.  She loved spending time with her family especially time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Steven Embury, Dan (Dayna) Embury all of Battle Creek, David Embury, and Doug (Susan Collins) Embury, of Cape Coral, Florida; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother Jim Gulley of New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Phillip W. Embury in 1988; and siblings Deane Ebert, Roberta Quick, and Duane Gulley.

Family will greet friends on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Central Christian Church, 713 Riverside Drive Battle Creek from 11AM-12PM with a funeral service taking place at 12PM.
