Alvin E. Hart

July 17, 1937 — June 1, 2018

Alvin E. Hart, age 80, of Bellevue, MI passed away peacefully Friday, June 1, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Battle Creek, MI on July 17, 1937 the son of Ralph and Gladys (Crapoff) Hart. While in junior high, Alvin met Margaret Tozer at the Palais roller-skating rink. In their High School years, they performed as part of the B.C. Central Band Follies, and briefly Margaret and Alvin were professional skaters. In 1957 they were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Battle Creek. From there on out, they skated together the rest of their life. However, once after their children were born, they seldom performed for the public. Al and Maggie's last skating show was as part of a Battle Creek Civic Theatre production. But this time, it was as an entire family (or at least the four that were born at that time).

Alvin graduated high school from Battle Creek Central, and went directly into the home construction trade. Within a few years he became employed with Ralston Foods, from which he later retired. When his children became involved in school sports he started coaching at the Little League level, and later ended up coaching Varsity Softball at Bellevue. Coach Hart was at the helm for 15 seasons, during which time his girls won several league, District and one Regional title. He also coached and helped coach Bellevue's boys and girls Cross Country teams. When he wasn't coaching, he was a stage manager for the Bellevue Theatre productions. This included Grade School, High School, and Community level productions. Alvin was a jack of all trades and built all the props for the shows, and before too long he was also ON the stage. Alvin also enjoyed bowling and golf. Most of all, Alvin was known for his hugs and his contagious smile.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Margaret, of 60 years; children, Ron Hart of Bellevue, Becky Otto of Bellevue, Joan (Marvin) Richards of Pennfield, Julie (Bruce) Kelly of Bellevue, John (Jani) Hart of Kalamazoo; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Ken (Sherry) Hart; many nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jack Hart, and his son-in-law Steve Otto.
