Alan D. Shebel, 85, of Marshall died on Friday, January 11, 2019 at his home. Al has lived the majority of his life after his grandparents died in the Shebel Family's Centennial Farm where his father had been born.
Al was born on February 28, 1933 in Marshall to Earl and Hazel (Marvin) Shebel. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1952. He served in the United States Army for three years during the Korean War.
On November 18, 1953, he married Amelia M. "Amy" Katz in Marshall. She preceded him in death on May 10, 1997. Al was lucky in love again and on January 21, 1998, he married Donna J. Drumm-Overley in Indiana.
Al worked with his father for 23 years at Earl Shebel and Son on East Michigan Avenue in Marshall, where they did auto repair and specialized in small engine repair. After his father retired, Al worked as Flight Manager for the Eaton Corporation Flight Department, headquartered in their hanger at Kellogg Field in Battle Creek, for 21 years retiring in 1999.
He was an avid and skilled private pilot holding several ratings including instrument ratings. Al enjoyed restoring old cars and farming. He loved spending time with his family especially with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Donna of Marshall; step-children, Robert Overley II and Katie Whipple both of Marshall; grandchildren, Harley, Hannah, and Hogan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Amy; stepson-in-law David Whipple; brother Marvin Shebel; a sister Alice Parks; and sister-in-law Ilene Shebel.
Family will greet friends and share memnories from 5PM-8PM on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Marshall Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
Funeral Services celebrating his life will take place at 11AM Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Marshall Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Ralph McCarty officiating.
