Theresa Y. Chiang

Theresa Y. Chiang, age 103, of Kalamazoo, passed away on  March 2, 2022.

She was born on December 7, 1918 to His-Chu Sun and Chieh-Chih Chang. She graduated from Yi-Jiao High School for Girls of Beijing and many years later attended Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek. Theresa worked as a elementary teacher for East Ironsmith Lane Elementary School in Beijing. On December 11, 1936, she married Dr. Peter Fan-Tih Chiang. Peter preceded her in death in 1999. They lived in Bellevue, MI for many years after Peter took the job teaching at Olivet College.

Theresa is survived by her son, Yao-Tung (Iris) Chiang of Westmont, IL and five daughters, Chi-Shung Chiang of Oxnard, CA, Michele (Daniel) Wu of Kalamazoo, MI, Angela (George) Cheng of Battle Creek, MI, Grace Chiang of Battle Creek, MI, Lu-Shung (Peter) Sheh of Santa Rosa, CA; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Chin-Quan Sun and two sisters, Ya-Xin and Ya-Tian. She was preceded in death by one brother, Chin-Tse Sun.

Friends may visit with the family from 3 – 7 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022, at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 2838 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015. Following the visitation, a Rosary Service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 61 N. 23 ^rd St, Battle Creek, MI 49015. Interment will take place later in Sky Lawn Memorial Park in California. Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Battle Creek.
