Shirley Ann (Ballance) Schroder

Shirley Ann Schroder, 90, of Marshall passed away on Sunday, February, 20, 2023, at Vineyard Assisted Living in Kalamazoo.

Shirley was born on March 28, 1932, to Robert and Bernice (Phillips) Ballance in Sodus, Michigan. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1950.  On February 4, 1956, Shirley was united in marriage to Ernest Schroder at First Congregational Church in Battle Creek. Sadly, he passed away on March 29, 2018.

She was a member of Battle Creek First Congregational Church Ladies Auxiliary and also sang in the church choir. Shirley was an avid reader and she especially loved having family over for large dinner gatherings.

Shirley is survived by her children, Michael (Gladys) Schroder of Gladstone, Michigan, Valinta (John Michael) Robinson-Schnable of St. Joseph, Michigan, Phyllis A. Schroder of Tinton Falls, New Jersey and Steven (Sue) Schroder of Portage, Michigan: her grandchildren, Jeff, Robert, Joshua, Sarah, Mitch, Haley, Evan and Lela, her many great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Roberta (Walter) McWhirter of Bradenton, Florida and Gale Jenkins of Damascus, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest and her parents.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, Michigan 49068, were the funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles Winter officiating.
