Russell E. Clutter

Russell E. Clutter, age 82, of Battle Creek, passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Russell was born on July 18, 1939, the son of the late Paul M. Clutter Sr. and Mary M. Stephens Clutter. Russell served as Chairman of the Cruise to the Fountain in Marshall, Past President of the Calhoun County Fair Board, Past Supervisor of Pennfield Township, and was employed for over 34 years by the Ralston Purina Company.  He was a member of Fredonia Grange and the Newton United Methodist Church. He volunteered with the Calhoun County Agriculture Society. He served the Calhoun County Sherriff’s Department as a Volunteer Chaplain, assisting the department with notifying families of a tragedy with their loved one. Russell enjoyed farming and raising cattle and draft horses. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time on the lake with family and friends.

He was united in marriage with Shirley Ann Clutter on December 24, 1985. Shirley preceded him in death on June 16, 2021. Russell is survived by his children, Todd Clutter, Scott Shaffer, and Shane (Justin) Bill; grandchildren, Dennis Clutter & Stewart Clutter, Mackenzie Bill & Meredith Bill; and his brothers, Ron (Julie) Clutter and Paul “Pete” (Shirley) Clutter Jr. He was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Clutter.

Russell will also be dearly missed by his beloved dog and companion, Dobbie.

A memorial visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at the funeral home. Interment will follow after the service, in Newton Cemetery.
