Rose L. Kalisz

March 20, 1927 — January 10, 2023

Rose L. Kalisz, age 95, of Battle Creek, passed away and joined our Lord on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.

Rose was born in Dearborn, MI, on March 20, 1927, the daughter of the late Raymond and Marcella Harriott (Salisbury) Seewald. She united in marriage with Edward W. Kalisz on June 8, 1946; he preceded her in death on February 7, 1994. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshall.

Rose enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, ceramics, bowling, camping with her children, and playing bingo and Yahtzee. She loved singing high soprano in the church choir and at home. Rose was a devout Catholic and prayed the rosary often with Edward and her thirteen children.  She gave us many of blessings. Rose and Edward enjoyed spending winters in Arizona where she was the activities director on many senior bus trips to the casinos. She loved listening to her grandson, Caleb, playing the guitar, and also enjoyed listening to her favorite singers; Andy Williams and Elvis Presley. Rose loved being a part of many events and gatherings with her 150 total family members. Her favorite travel destinations included a trip to the Marian pilgrimage in Fatima, Lourdes and Rome, and two pilgrimage trips to Medjugorje. Rose and Edward also vacationed in Hawaii for their 25th wedding anniversary. Rose was a loving and kindhearted person to everyone she met. She always cared and helped others. One of Rose’s first jobs was a telephone switchboard operator, and she did various other part-time jobs while raising her thirteen children.  Rose and Edward started their family in Melvindale, MI, then Clawson, MI, then moved to Imlay City, MI, and in 1968, fittingly, moved into the renovated old Cleveland School House located at the corner of L Drive North and 14 Mile Road with all the thirteen children and considered Marshall, MI to be their home town.

Rose is survived by her children, (Gail) Kalisz, Edward (Irene) Kalisz, David (Mary) Kalisz, Donna (Daryl) Smith, Lawrence (Lauretta) Kalisz, Paul Kalisz, Rosanne (Larry) Toney, Mary (Sargon) Nazarians, Jean Albaugh, Bernadette Kalisz, Joseph Kalisz (Jen Smith) Fiancé, Veronica (Gary) Bradshaw, Anthony (Heidi) Kalisz; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond & Marcella Harriott (Salisbury) Seewald; husband, Edward W. Kalisz; siblings, Mary, Margaret, George, Dorothy, John, Theresa, Raymond, Marcella, Patricia, Beatrice, Joseph, Adalaid, Anne; son, Raymond Kalisz; daughter-in-law, Julaine Kalisz; grandchild, Melissa Kalisz; great grandchild, Andrew Evans; miscarriages, Katherine Rose, Margaret Mary, Ann Janine, Theresa Jane, John Paul, and Charles Anthony.

Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068, where a Rosary will follow at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also visit at the funeral home from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023, followed by a procession to the St. Mary Catholic Church, 212 W Hanover St, Marshall, MI 49068, where a Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday. Please visit https://www.kempffuneralhome.com to view the online obituary, sign the guest book, and leave messages for the family.
