Michael "Mike" J. McGinnis

Michael J. McGinnis, 71, of Battle Creek, passed away on May 30, 2024 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. He was born on June 10, 1952 to William and Delores (Shilts) McGinnis in Kalamazoo, MI. Mike graduated from Lakeview High School and Ferris State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He married Julie Mitchell in Battle Creek, MI in 1978.  

Mike worked in logistics for Post Cereal Company. When Mike was in high school and at Ferris State University, he was a pitcher for the baseball team. He later worked for Lakeview Public Schools as a substitute teacher and tennis coach for 20 years. Mike was awarded regional coach of the year many times including for both boy’s and girl’s teams and won boys state coach of the year in 1999. He served terms as president of the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association and as president of the Michigan High School Coaches Association. He was a United States Tennis Professionals Association certified tennis instructor.  

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Julie; children, Jennifer (Patrick) Christianson, Matthew McGinnis, Mitchell (Jennifer) McGinnis; grandchildren, Max, Lily and Charles Christianson, Afton and Coen McGinnis. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

There are no services scheduled at this time, cremation has taken place.
