Jerold Lee Hughes, 85, of Bellevue, Michigan passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on January 5, 1938 to Max and Selena (Gariety) Hughes in Bellevue.

Jerold entered the United States Army on September 16, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan and was honorably discharged on June 28, 1958, attaining the rank of SP3.

On December 6, 1958 Jerold married Janet Hess in Bellevue, Michigan. Jerold worked as a tier driver for General Motors Corporation in Kalamazoo, Michigan for 31 years, retiring in 1995.

He will be fondly remembered for his love of horses. Jerold raised horses, enjoyed participating and going to horse pulls, and going to horse shows and sales. Janet and Jerold enjoyed making the yearly trip to Indiana to attend a horse pulling fund raiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He enjoyed working around the house and literally could fix anything.

Jerold is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Janet, his three sons, Ronald (Sue) Hughes of Bellevue, Douglas Hughes of Bellevue and Jerold Hughes, Jr. of Bellevue. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Kathy Hughes, his grandson, R-2 Hughes, his four brothers, Raymond Hughes, Kenny Hughes, Bernard Hughes and Leonard Hughes and his sister, Laura Ormsbee.

A private graveside funeral service was held at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens, Battle Creek, Michigan.
