James "Jim" Henry Carpenter, 83, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 15, 1941, to Wade and Mary (Miller) Carpenter in Sturgis, Michigan.
On May 20, 1998, Jim married Sandra "Sandy" (Flynn) Cook in Tennessee.
Born in Sturgis, Michigan, the second son to Wade and Mary, shortly thereafter they moved to Nashville, Michigan where he attended the local schools and then graduated from Nashville High School in 1959.
Jim began his working career at E.W. Bliss, Hastings, Michigan in the early 1960's along with farming with his brother Larry until he joined the Kellogg Cereal Co. He worked there for 30 years, retiring in 1999 from the Packaging Department.
Jim was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club. Besides listening to country music, he along with Sandy enjoyed working in their large flower and vegetable gardens as well as keeping a beautiful yard. One of his favorite travel trips was to Ireland with his father to see where he worked setting up a plant. He also enjoyed traveling to Frostproof, Florida with Sandy each winter to enjoy the warm weather and their friends. Some of his favorite things to do were going on random car rides throughout the area and always ending up at a restaurant and meeting his friends for coffee but he especially loved going to and supporting his grandchildren in their school and sporting events. In retirement he picked up the clubs and joined the game of golf which he enjoyed with family and friends. He would always say "You can't take this game serious, or it will drive you crazy”. Jim will be missed for warm and inviting personality, he truly never met a stranger.
