Gerald "Jerry" Dean Grant, 85, of Marshall, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.

He was born on October 23, 1937 to Edward and Nancy (Kulas) Grant in Detroit.

Jerry graduated from Melvindale High School in 1956 and then enlisted into the United States Marine Corp. on July 30, 1956, was honorably discharged on July 27, 1958, attaining the rank of Corporal. He earned the Marksman Rifle Badge while serving.

On April 21, 1958 Jerry married Joyce Marie Hoth in Carlsbad, California. Jerry and Joyce have made Marshall, Michigan their home since 2000, moving from Vineyard Lake in Brooklyn, Michigan and originally coming from Detroit.

After serving in the Marines, he went onto a 26.5-year career as an equipment operator for Wayne County Road Commission. He truly knew how to operate every piece of equipment associated with the road commission. After retirement, he worked at Jacobson's Department Store in Dearborn stocking shelves.

Jerry was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshall. He along with his wife Joyce enjoyed spending time at their Vineyard Lake home, fishing, bowling with friends in Jackson, and completing crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed many years coaching youth baseball. Jerry could always be found putting together or fixing many small projects around the house in the most meticulous of ways. He will be fondly missed for his loving and doting nature, especially toward his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gerald is survived by his loving spouse of 64 years, Joyce; his son, Jeffery Grant of Novi, his four grandchildren, Molly and Emzy Collins II of Marshall, Suzanne Grant of Ferndale and Jeremiah Grant of South Lyon, his five great grandchildren, Lillie Edlund, Emzy Collins, III, Jabin Collins, Alice Dopp and Elden Collins. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Sherrie Grant.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Julie L Grant.

A private Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marshall, Michigan, with Reverend Father Craig J. Lusk, officiating.

A private burial will take place at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Cemetery in Brownstown Twp., Michigan.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church (212 W. Hanover St. Marshall, MI 49068).
