E. Scott Brownell, 66, of Battle Creek, passed away on September 21, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Scott was born on July 18, 1958 in Battle Creek, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents Douglas Alan and Mary Louise (Blakeman) Brownell. In his younger years he was a member of DeMolay, graduated from Lakeview High School and Western Michigan University with a degree in Engineering. Scott had a 30+ year career as a Mechanical Engineer and Program Manager for Eaton Corp in Marshall. On December 30, 1983 he married Mary E. Frazier at the Redemption Lutheran Church in Battle Creek.
Scott loved the outdoors. He and Mary spent much of their free time at their cottage on South Manistique Lake, near Curtis, MI, where he would fish and duck hunt with family and friends. Scott would also travel the U.S. with Mary in their RV, where he enjoyed visiting loved ones, meeting new people, and taking in the beauty of the countryside and national parks.
Scott loved to bring people together. A 25+ year tradition, he hosted the annual Duck Dinner, gathering family and friends to celebrate the bounty of the fall hunt paired with a robust selection of red wines. He also enjoyed making international coworkers feel comfortable and welcomed in a small town.
Scott is survived by his loving wife, Mary; children, Emily (Nathen Horne) Wright of Bronson, MI, Robert Brownell of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Logan Wright, Alexander Thrush and brothers, Garrett and Steven Brownell.
