Brenda Sue Winter, 62, of Hillman, passed away December 20, 2024, at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, Michigan.

Born Brenda Sue Cobern on September 17, 1962, in Albion, Michigan, she was the daughter of Ardis (Potter) Perkins. She grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School. Brenda worked as a factory welder for Tenneco for 15 years, then later at MACI for another 15 years. She continued working after, doing odd jobs like driving school buses, doing FedEx delivery, and helping at an assisted living facility.

On May 15, 2003, Brenda married Ernie Winter, whom she had grown up with. They recently moved to Hillman after raising their families in Marshall and were enjoying life up north. Brenda and Ernie loved to camp, some of their favorite places being Muskegon, the dunes, and the U.P.

Brenda had a big heart and would give anyone her last dollar or the shirt off her back. Family was very important to Brenda, and she especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. She was also an animal lover and cared for hurt or sick animals she came across. For many years Brenda participated in Relay For Life, walking with friends and family. Brenda will be missed by all who knew her kind heart.

Brenda is survived by her husband Ernie; her mother Ardis Perkins of Marshall, Michigan; children Stacy (James) Sneed, Dustin (Amber Jones) Wright, Samantha (Salomon) Zamudio, Samantha (Mark) Cousino, and Chris (Ashley) Winter, all of Marshall, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; brothers Dennis (Melissa) Cobern of Marshall, Michigan, Danny Cobern of Galesburg, Michigan, Billy (Janet) Cobern of Hastings, Michigan, and Richie Murray of Marshall, Michigan; Uncle Tom (Ruth Ann) Potter; Aunts Carolyn (Wayne) Jones and Joyce (prec. Bill) Ewing; nephew Raymond Cobern; as well as many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son Andrew Cole and her maternal grandparents Russel and Johanna Potter.

Per Brenda’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering to celebrate Brenda’s life will take place on January 4, 2025 from 12 to 5 at Countryside Venue & Events at 19697 F Drive South, Marshall.
