Wendell P. Embury, 84, of Arcadia, Florida, formerly of Battle Creek, died on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Tidwell Hospice Residence, in Arcadia.
Wendell was born on September 8, 1934 in Battle Creek to Ralph and Ethel (Craw) Embury. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1953. On July 10, 1955 he married Anita L. Gulley in Battle Creek.
Wendell retired from Kellogg Company after working for 41 years. Prior to that he worked at Clark Equipment in Battle Creek and Oldsmobile in Lansing. Wendell, along with his wife Anita, owned and operated a fishing camp on Beaver Lake near Napanee, Canada for many years. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Battle Creek and 1st Christian Church in Arcadia and he served as an elder in both congregations. He was also a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club. Wendell loved being outdoors, and he was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. He also was a Cub Scout leader for many years, where he always volunteered every year to sell Christmas trees and deliver Christmas baskets to needy families. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren!
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Anita of Arcadia, Florida; sons, Steven Embury, Dan (Dayna) Embury all of Battle Creek, David Embury, and Doug (Susan Collins) Embury, of Cape Coral, Florida; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and one more on the way; siblings, Kenneth (Janet) Embury of Battle Creek, Ruth Ann Rollins of Lansing, Bobby Embury of Maheim, Pennsylvania, and Barbara Burkholder of Fort Myers, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Phillip W. Embury in 1988.
Family will greet friends on Tuesday May 14, 2019 at Central Christian Church, 713 Riverside Drive Battle Creek from 11AM-12PM with a funeral service taking place at 12PM. Internment will follow at Morgan Cemetery. Memorial Contributions are requested to Habitat for Humanity. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
