Therese Marie Nicolai, age 93, of Battle Creek passed away August 19, 2018 at her residence.
Therese was born May 16, 1925 in Chicago, IL to Paul and Clara (Jantsch) Hemmerling. She married Frederick Nicolai in Chicago on December 9, 1944. They shared 63 loving years together until his passing in June of 2008.
Therese took great pride in being a homemaker, taking care of Fred and her children.
She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, and playing Bridge. Therese and Fred loved boating and fishing together.
Theresa is survived by her children, Jane Prahl of Battle Creek, Eileen (Rick) Hammond of Battle Creek, Barbara (William Cole) Starring of Battle Creek, Stephen Nicolai of Aurora, OH, and Christopher (Tina) Nicolai of Bellevue; grandchildren, Joanne Rose of Battle Creek, Adam (Allison) Hammond of Battle Creek, Lisa (Russell Beaver) Starring of Chicago, IL, Steven (Courtney) Starring of Battle Creek, John Prahl of Battle Creek, Lynnsey Nicolai of Aurora, OH and Emma Nicolai of Aurora, OH; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Rita Hemmerling of Battle Creek; and brother, David Hemmerling of Grayslake, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Clara Hemmerling; and son, Mark Nicolai.
Visitation will be held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 61 N 23rd St, Battle Creek, MI 49015, on Friday August 24, 2018 from 10:30-11:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30am with Father Christopher Ankley officiating. Therese will be laid to rest next to her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
The family is being served by the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 2838 SW Capital Ave., Battle Creek Chapel.
