Robert W. Laupp, 94, of Marengo Township, died on Monday October 1, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family following a long illness.
Robert was born on December 10, 1923 in Brookfield Township, Michigan to Louie and Anna (Baker) Laupp. He joined the Army in 1944, he served in the Philippines, and he was honorably discharged in 1946. On October 8, 1946 he married Dorothy Langridge at their farm house in Marengo Township. She preceded him in death in 2006. On October 17, 2007 he married Lila Hughes in Marshall. She survives.
Robert worked in construction and farmed in Marengo Township area for the majority of his life. He started working for Huggett Construction and later would work from himself in his own business, along with working at Mid-West Foundry for over 20 years. Robert was a member of the VFW, and a former member of the Marshall Moose Lodge #676. He enjoyed hunting and working. He was able to take anything and find a use for it or get it running again. Robert was also very good at wood working.
He is survived by his wife Lila of Marengo Township; children, David (Maureen) Laupp of Arizona, Tommy (Vicki) Laupp of Marengo, Wendy Horsman of Union City, and Peggy (Keith) Walters of Palm Coast, Florida; step children, Dennis (Judy) Hughes, David (Pauline) Hughes, Donald Hughes, and Donna (Denny) Hughes; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; 25 step grandchildren; and several step great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister Joan Strevey; brothers, Jack (Margaret) Laupp and Pete (Suzie) Laupp. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dorothy; and a grandson Todd Smith.
Family will gather with friends on Friday October 5, 2018 from 9:30 AM- 10:30 AM at the Marshall Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services 723 US 27 North with a funeral service taking place at 10:30 AM with Pastor Jim Laupp officiating. Family will gather with friends following the services in the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services Reception Hall. Memorial contributions are requested to CentraCare of Battle Creek.
