Lorna R. Llewellyn

July 4, 1929 — November 5, 2018

Lorna R. Llewellyn, 89, of Marshall, passed away while in the loving care of her daughters at her home on Monday, November 5, 2018.

Lorna was born on July 4, 1929 in Battle Creek to Pherold C. and Amelia "Nellie" (Jager) Olmstead. She grew up in Marshall and was a member of the Marshall High School graduating class of 1947. While in high school, Lorna was very active as a Redskin cheerleader, in GAA, and in many class events. She worked during high school as a "soda jerk" at Hemmingsen Drug Store at their soda counter.

Lorna put her education to work as a secretary after high school. She retired in the mid 1990's from Bill Knapp's Commissary in Battle Creek where she had worked as a secretary and receptionist for 25 years. Prior to that she worked at Win Schuler's Restaurant where she was Win Schuler's secretary for many years.

Lorna was married to C. Robert Llewellyn. Together they brought their daughters Amy, Lori and Cary into this world. Later in life, they decided to dissolve their marriage and continue on separately, with Lorna and the girls still making their home in Marshall.

She was a devoted member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she had served on the vestry and volunteered for any church project that came up. Several years ago she gave up her decades long project of keeping the bulletin boards updated at the church. Lorna clipped articles of interest from local papers about Trinity members and other community members, as well as the church's projects. She always made salads for the church's Soup and Salad meal served each year during the Historical Home Tour, and brought food and helped in the kitchen for many funeral and church meals.
She formerly bowled on the Win Schuler's Bowling Team at Marshall Lanes. Lorna knitted newborn caps and donated them to Oaklawn Hospital's Birth Center for many years, as well as knitting prayer shawls that were blessed by Trinity's Rector and given to people needing spiritual support. She looked forward to trips to Shipshewana.

Lorna will be remembered for her bubbly personality and her "my cup is always half full" attitude towards life! She always found the good in people of all kinds. Lorna loved her family above all. She was always supportive and encouraging of their efforts. She never missed a Calhoun County Fair, where she would watch her daughters participate in 4-H Horse events, never missing one. She could be found in the stands at many softball games that her daughters' were playing in, or coaching. Later she sat in those stands when her grandchildren were involved, and she was as supportive! Lorna's cookies were legendary and well distributed amongst family and friends, always delivered with a smile and a memorable visit.

She is survived by her daughters Amy (Don) Llewellyn of Burlington, Lori (William) Carr of Albion, and Cary (Patrick) Kolodziejczak of Brighton; her 3 grandchildren Doug Hulce, Jackie (Scott) Cameron, and Naomi Carr; her 3 step-grandchildren Patrick (Tess) Kolodziejczak, Katie (Kris) Kilpatrick, and Anna (Brian) Tchozewski; her great-grandchildren Kara Hulce and Ava Winstone and 11 step-great-grandchildren; her brother John (Starla) Davis of Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law Eleanor Olmstead of Marshall; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Elmo Olmstead.

A Celebration of Lorna's life will be held on Friday, Nov. 16 at 11AM at the Marshall Chapel with Rev. Mother Anne Schnaare, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church officiating.
