Lewis "Butch" Mercer

February 7, 1941 ~ June 15, 2019 (age 78)


Lewis E. "Butch" Mercer, age 78, of Marshall, Michigan passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Battle Creek, MI on February 7, 1941 the son of Richard and Emma (Bowman) Mercer, Sr. Butch graduated from Battle Creek Central High School class of 1959. After high school he was employed with Clark Equipment and worked as a machinist until his retirement. Butch was very active with the Fredonia Grange for several years. Butch met Nancy Royer, and from the very first moment they met he was smitten by her. They married on December 17, 1973. He and Nancy were a part of a special group of friends called the "Friday Night Gang." Butch enjoyed rebuilding antique John Deere tractors, woodworking, fishing, and hunting. Most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren whom he adored.

Butch is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of 35 years; children, Victoria DuBois of CA, Melissa (John) Mercer-Tachick of Grass Lake, MI; grandchildren, Addison and Jacob Tachick; siblings, Helen "Suzie" Leboeuf, Connie Hunter, Sandy Hall; and former wife, Juana (DuBois) Mercer. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jackie Wilk; brothers-in-law, Ed Leboeuf and Gary Hunter.

Family will receive friends at the Kempf Funeral & Cremation Services, Marshall on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 11:00am. Cremation will follow the services. Family requests memorial contributions be directed to the Fredonia Grange or Jackson County 4-H in which his grandchildren will soon become active.
