Lena Maye Flanagan, age 98, of Albion, transitioned into eternal life on May 2, 2019 at her home.
Lena was born on October 6, 1920 in Athens, Alabama to John and Viola (Martin) Wray.
After finishing school, Lena worked on her family farm, and then moved from Alabama to Texas, and later Michigan where she married Otha L. Flanagan on December 1, 1957. Together they had one daughter, Sherry Flanagan.
Locally, Lena worked at both Corning Glass Works and Albion College, where she retired from in 1983.
Lena enjoyed quilting, embroidering, shopping, and spending time with her family. One of Lena's favorite pastimes was playing with her great grandchildren. She could often be found bouncing them on her knee, tossing a ball, or teaching them her childhood games.
Lena was a faithful church going woman and attended Christ Apostolic Church of Albion for close to sixty years. There she had many dear and cherished friends.
Lena is survived by her daughter Sherry Flanagan, granddaughters Jamie Davis (Aaron Moore) of Lansing, Mi, and Ashley (Trevor) Shedd of Lafayette, In; great grandchildren Diamyn Lafayette, Malykai Moore, Zaaron Moore, Caylix Moore, Avery Shedd, Dyce Shedd, Dylan Shedd, and Devin Shedd; and beloved children and grandchildren that she loved like her own; numerous nieces and nephews of Alabama; and special friends Opal Woods, Trish Pollman, and Marjorie Shedd. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Viola Wray; sisters, Mamie, Roberta, Callie, and Elizabeth; and brothers Donald, Lerman, Raymond, and Lester.
Visitation will be held at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Service, 723 Old US 27 North, Marshall Chapel on Sunday May 5, 2019 from 4-6pm. A funeral service will take place at Christ Apostolic Church, 503 N Superior St, Albion, MI 49224, on Monday May 6, 2019 at 1pm with Pastor David Trammell officiating.
Lena will be laid to rest next to her husband Otha in Fort Custer National Cemetery on Wednesday May 8th at 1:30pm.
